OpenAI has announced its new online search engine, SearchGPT, and has opened it to a limited number of testers.

OpenAI introduced SearchGPT, a new search engine designed to challenge the dominance of the search engine market. Initially offered to a small group of users and publishers for testing, SearchGPT aims to integrate these features into ChatGPT as well.

SearchGPT is a temporary prototype that combines OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models with internet search capabilities. This search engine will respond to queries in a conversational manner and provide open links to relevant resources, presenting the sources of the information it provides. With this search engine, up-to-date information will be accessible in queries made in ChatGPT.

It will be a competitor to Google and Bing

The new search feature comes from OpenAI, which is a major competitor in the search engine market alongside Google and Microsoft. These tech giants have long been racing to integrate artificial intelligence into their search engines. “Finding answers on the web can take a lot of effort and often requires multiple attempts to get relevant results,” OpenAI explained.

However, SearchGPT has already sparked copyright controversy. Although OpenAI argues that using copyrighted data is not illegal, claiming that its services constitute something new and fall under the doctrine of “fair use,” there has been backlash. OpenAI has stated that they are collaborating with publishers for SearchGPT, offering them options on how their content appears in search results and aiming to encourage reliable sources.

SearchGPT will be able to generate visuals as well as verbal answers to searches.
